THE Primary School is based on P6 and P7 of the Scottish system of education, and the majority of boys are admitted in Primary 6 (10-11 years old), some at Primary 7 (11-12 years old), while there are exceptional vacancies for slightly younger compassionate cases or occasional vacancies in the Secondary School.
Most boys spend two years in the Primary School, which has small classes of 20 so as to maximise the opportunity for boys coming from various and different educational systems to attain a firm and common grounding for their future.
This is equally valuable for the many pupils who, because of Service life, have attended many schools before they are 10 years old. At the same time, Primary pupils benefit from the specialist teaching available in the main school in Art, Music, Physical Education, as well as qualified help for those with special educational needs.
In addition, all Primary boys receive instruction in Piping, or Drumming and bugling, or Highland Dancing and Ceremonial Drill.

The 80 Primary boys live in Wavell House, a modern, purpose built Boarding House, under the supervision of a resident Housemaster, his Deputy, three Masters and a resident Housematron. Yet, though their House and classrooms are separate from the main school, the boys are able to make use of the school's extensive facilities and playing fields.
The House is divided into Abercromby, Hopetoun, Lynedoch and Moore Dormitories, particularly as a basis for team sports and competitions. Hobbies and activities are seen to be important; outdoor activities, visits and camps are a priority; the main sports are Rugby, Cross Country, Swimming and Judo.
The aim of the Primary School in Wavell House is to give .every pupil a happy environment in which he can consolidate the basics of learning whilst participating in a full and energetic boarding life.
