LOCATION..LOCATION.. LOCATION

Occupying a prime spot in an historical and extremely sought after location, Wavell House is an extremely desirable address within the green, well-tended grounds of Queen Victoria School, Dunhlane. The accommodation has recently benefited from substantial modernisation and refitting over the last few years.
Not only has it been given brand new carpets and curtains, which lend (lie building a bright and cheery atmosphere, the residents have also been busy with "Changing Rooms" touches: such as their gravy fish theme in the downstairs bathrooms and hand-crafted sentinels at the doorway of Wavell itself.
The large living spaces have recently been refurbished to include a range of home comforts such as wide screen televisions; SKY television and their very own well- stocked Video library - not to mention the ultimate in luxury, the amazingly comfy seating for all, courtesy of IKKA and the Commissioners, and organised by Miss MacDougall.
The accommoilation also provides its very own purpose-built and well-stocked luck Shop - managed expertly by Ms Taylor and her fast-adding team. I hey cheerfully ensure that, whatever we crave, we have (literally) right on our doorstep - whether it's an attack of the Saturday afternoon "munchies" or an ice-cool drink on a red hot day.
There is also the benefit of having residential staff to ensure that whatever you desire is readily available - although we do feel that we have to point out that recent requests to Mrs Adams for: 'Sellotape', 'A birthday card I could give my mum' and 'A decent sized picture of James VII...' at 10pm on a Saturday night were not as well received as we might have hoped...
The residential Hobbies programme ensures that the residents are never short of something to do, even on the darkest winter nights, including: Early morning swims. Charity baking, Needlework and Cross Stitch, line Dancing, Hockey and the chance to participate in the All- Star Christmas Talent Show. For anyone who wants a challenge there's never a dull moment. The only activity that hasn't been quite so popular is the 7.30am Hoover Dash with Advanced Slalom Bin-Emptying as an optional extra - We can't think why, it just hasn't caught on... |
Our lively bunch of tutors are another asset to the house - they're always there on hand to ensure that our days pass as calmly as possible. We have a whole range of ages, experiences and personalities: our newest addition to the house is Miss C.ato - hailing all the way from Melbourne, Australia. 1-rom Miss Blackwood's hilarious jokes, which we're sure were funny when she was at school, to Mrs. Howie's tips on the High Jump, we've got it all right here where we need it.
The kilted residents are a feature known as Prefects who assist in the smooth running of the House, the disappearance of all of the cheese sandwiches nightly at supper time and the stockpiling of single shoes at the day lockers. On a more serious note, they are a real asset to the House and are to he congratulated for all their hard work over the course of the year. Special thanks indeed should go to our llead(s) of House, llona and Evelyn for indeed proving that two heads are better than one.
The other people we have to thank for the smooth running and welcoming appearance of Wavell are Mrs Duthic and Mrs Henderson. 'I hey make sure that whatever the daily dramas, the girls of Wavell always look smart and their rooms smell clean and fragrant (well, nearly always...) It's not just their help in these ways that makes them so valuable, it's their real ability to cheer us up when we're down or have the last pair of navy-blue tights in the entire universe that makes them such a valuable part of Wavell House.
As well as all of these extremely attractive internal features, Wavell also has an extensive programme of events to enhance its property value. This year we've been able to sing along at 'Joseph and his Technicolour Dream Coat'; laugh and cry at 'Beauty and the Beast' and check out Miss MacDougall's 'unusual' dance technique at 'Hey Rock'n' Roll'. Mrs Adams disgraced us all by singing on stage with the 'Lookalikey' Robbie Williams at the tribute concert and all of the staff gave us a good laugh at tlieir hopelessly un-coordinated efforts to take part in the beach games on our annual outing to St Andrews. Combine this with the fun we had with the inflatable maze and bungee jumping at the BBQ, and you will soon see that there's not much time to be bored in Wavell House.
