Trenchard House Staff and Pupils

It never ceases to amaze me how quickly each year turns round, although I'm sure that it's something to do with old age or so my wife, Maureen, keeps telling me!

Each year seems to go round in the same way; new children arrive, GAP students leave and arc replaced and staff change. The past session has been no different, yet there still remains the challenges, the ups and downs and the rewards of looking after and, being responsible for, the welfare of the youngest members of our school community.

This session Trenchard has been redecorated and is looking much more comfortable with the children's rooms appearing more brightly coloured and cheerful. The boys and girls were very pleased with the result and were very appreciative.

Our third year of being the co-educational house in the school has been successful and is attributable to the good team work of the staff, senior prefects, Sl prefects and the willingness of the other boys and girls to try to work together and for each other. It's not all plain sailing by any means, but I do believe that if you keep insisting on certain codes of behaviour and conduct that, in the end, the pupils regard such codes as the norm and, as a result, are more able to give consideration and thought to others.

However as these are young children, they need support and constant reminding and it is in this role that the staff and senior girls play a pivotal role. I would, therefore, like to take this opportunity to thank them all for another good year's work in helping the young ones to settle in, get used to the routines and

overcoming the difficulties that they have experienced from being away from home for the first time, especially during the current situation in Iraq.

We have enjoyed our usual round of activities and trips to Dundee leisure pool, the cinema, the successful autumn tests at Murrayfield, the panto and various shopping trips and chippy runs. Our trip to Alton Towers last summer term, in conjunction with Cunningham, proved very successful, even though the staff were utterly exhausted by the end of It.

As it is the end of a session there comes the time when seniors leave and I would like to wish the House Captain, laurie Cairns, and the House Vice-captain, Barbara Davidson, every good wish
for their year in Australia and success in their chosen university courses and subsequent careers.

We also welcomed Miss Gail Edwards onto the house team as Deputy Housemistress along with the arrival, in January, of our two new GAP students Liam Wiltshire and Claire Fairbairn, who took over after the departure of Sam Cullen and Antje Sauerzweig who returned to Australia and Germany, respectively, in December.

Last, but not least, mention must be given to Matron, Heather Devlin, Kate Cullen, Helen Hyslop and all the team of maintenance staff who help to keep the house clean and in good
repair. Thanks to everyone and good luck for next session.
