The start of the season showed promise with a 2-2 draw against Stewart Melville's. Adverse weather conditions, coupled with the fact that this was a brand new 1 st XI playing together for the first time, made it a difficult game from the beginning. (Also, a funny one with its fair share of "You've been framed", possible entrants). However, a sterling performance by the team and, in particular, the back four who helped us claw our way back from 2-0 down to a draw in the game.
The next match was against a North Yorkshire touring side, Giggleswick. We narrowly lost this game; however, I don't think the final result was a true reflection of the game. There were many noteworthy performances in this game but one that sticks out in my mind most

was that of our goalkeeper, who saved our skin on more than one occasion.
Our third game, against on unusually good Dollar Academy side saw us record our first win, which was much deserved and long awaited! The work ethos and team spirit were exceptional and, without the team pulling together in this manner, we probably would hove lost.
Our penultimate fixture was against Dunblane High School, a gome of real competition and one for which the lads always seem to raise their game. This gave us our second and most convincing win, 4-11 A very effective midfield 'engine' working with our lightning quick strikers sealed the gome for us.

The one question that remains unanswered is "How did we fare in the Perthshire Cup?" Well ... in summary, this was a game that nobody could wait to play, yet tried so hard to forget. In our defence I would have to say that this was our first game on grass, all season, and the conditions were less than kind. However, at the end of the day we were beaten by a better and more experienced St Columba's side.
Finally, I would like to take the opportunity to thank all the lads in the squad for continuous effort and commitment and to our Coach, Mr McLay, again, for giving up his free time to train us, and for some 'choice' decisions whilst refereeing. Gary Houston S6
