This has been another successful year of Award expeditions. After expedition training throughout the Winter, the ventures started on the first weekend back after the Easter holiday,29th/30th April. This was a boys' Bronze training weekend in the Trossachs. We found an idyllic camp site by loch Achroy, good flat ground in a protected glade with a stream nearby.

The second expedition in the 6th/7th May was on the other boys' Bronze training weekend in the Trossachs. The weather again was very good. The two mountains we climbed during the weekend were Ben An and Ben Venue, which gave superb panoramic views of the Central belt of Scotland, from Tinto Hill in the south to the Island of Arran in the West, Ben Lui in the North and Arthur's seat in the East.

The third weekend on the 1 3th/14th May was a girls' Bronze training weekend. On this expedition Captain Sean Foley, ex Royal Marine came along to assess Miss Courtney as a potential leader for an expedition toVenezuela.

Over the next three weekends 27th/28th May, 3rd/4th June and 10th/11th June the Bronze assessments took place in the local Ochils. The weather was not as kind as it was during the training weekends, but this did not deter

the pupils who did very well: all successfully completed their expedition assessment.
Our Silver assessments were all carried out in the Braemar area. Firstly, a girls' Silver Assessment and boys' Gold Practice 14th/18th June. The girls group carried out an exploration up Glen Ey, studying the land use and flora and fauna of the glen. At the same time the boys' gold group made use of the time to train for their expedition in August. Port of their training was a 25km day hike including 7 munroes on route.

Secondly, a boys Silver Assessment and practice 22nd/25th June. The assessment started in Blair Atholl then followed Glen Tilt up to the Chest of Dee and on to finish in Braemar. The practice group walked up the Glenshee area.
