This term has seen the working of the revised summer term with Grand Day brought forward to the 12th of June. When the examinations have finished there are about four weeks intensive sports and Grand Day practices, academic studies taking second place. School outings, lec-tures and anything else which needs to be done can be crammed into this short space of time resulting in near chaos with people clamouring on all sides for a day here or a day there for their own use, whether it be a Science lecture, a canoeing camp or whatever. Despite this, it is probably a better system than the previous one. I feel,

however, that it will not be long before boys are asking to leave school directly after the examinations without waiting for Grand Day. Much discussion by the staff has culminated in the decision to abolish the house system as we know it. Next school year will see the introduction of three new houses along with Wavell House. The Junior House will comprise the present 1st and 2nd year, the Intermediate House will contain the 3rd year and the Senior House the 4th, 5th and 6th year. This system will enable house masters to decide on their own policy with respect to the boys' ages. Feelings about the new arrangements are mixed and apprehensive as very little detail is yet known. A major criticism of the previous 'Victorian' was that it contained too many advertisements. The reason for this is that advertisements provide the main source of income covering the 'Victorian'. Without this money it could not pay its own way and would soon cease to exist!
